Bilateral Meeting
27/05/2025

His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam attended a Bilateral Meeting with His Excellency Phạm Minh Chính, the Prime Minister of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam. The meeting was held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre. During the Bilateral Meeting, His Majesty in a titah, expressed condolences on the passing of the late President Tran Duc Luong, recalling the interaction with him especially during his State Visit to Brunei in 2001. His Majesty appreciated the invitation to visit Viet Nam and looked forward to visiting the country at a mutually convenient date. Both countries, said His Majesty, enjoy an enduring Comprehensive Partnership in trade, energy and people-to-people exchanges, and suggested for both sides to establish meaningful targets for further development in strategic areas of cooperation, guided by the Plan of Action.

His Majesty welcomed Viet Nam's interest in developing an energy partnership, including through joint ventures and the supply of crude oil, while stating that there are also many opportunities to further deepen economic linkages in agriculture, aquaculture and the halal industry. His Majesty added this collaboration on food and supply chain security will benefit both the people and countries, given the current geopolitical and geo-economic uncertainties.

His Majesty expressed interest to leverage Viet Nam's expertise and best practices to enhance Brunei Darussalam's efforts in addressing food security. In ending the titah, His Majesty stated that the people-to-people exchanges in education and defence have brought people of the two countries closer together, forging better friendship and understanding.
